In December 2020, Druckenmiller Professor of Computer Science Rebecca Wright assessed the shifting state of accountability within computing technology in a new monograph titled "Accountability in Computing: Concepts and Mechanisms," published as the fourth issue in the second volume of the cybersecurity-focused journal Foundations and Trends in Privacy and Security. Wright, who is also the director of the Vagelos Computational Science Center, provides a survey of how growing interest in accountability is changing the demands for online communications and computing systems. The monograph analyzes accountability as a concept, overviews the relevant literature of methods to achieve accountability in computing, and emphasizes the importance of accountability as a tool to make future computing technologies more robust, fair, and efficient.
